About United Way

What

United Way of Portage County is an independently governed 501(c)3 nonprofit organization connected to a network of more than 1,400 local United Ways through United Way Worldwide. We have our own board of directors and focus our work on creating long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of problems within our community.

United Way of Portage County’s strategic approach to community problem-solving concentrates on collaboration and results. We achieve results through more than 30 partner programs and 13 agencies.

United Way of Portage County works to advance the common good by creating opportunities for a better life for all. When we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all.

Our focus is on Education, Health, and Financial Stability - the building blocks for a good quality life.

Education

From prenatal through young adulthood, (cradle to career), education provides the basis for individual development, advances an inclusive and culturally diverse mindset, supports transition to family-sustaining employment, and builds a strong community.

Health

Good mental and physical health are fundamental to an individual's capacity to enjoy their lives, provide for their families, contribute to society and realize their dreams. A healthy community is built upon a foundation of health equity that fosters safe, stable, and nurturing relationships for all community members.

Financial Stability

Financial security is vital to supporting individual and family life, maintaining employment, achieving career aspirations, and building assets for the future. We enable community members a chance for a brighter future and a path toward achieving financial capability.

How

Advancing the common good is about community-wide change to help all of us. We are all interdependent and when we are stronger as individuals, together we build a stronger community.

In order to achieve real, lasting community-wide change, United Way recruits the people and organizations from across the community who bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done. Together, we are taking action that makes a real difference today, while creating long-term solutions and measurable results.

More than 7,000 people and over 200 organizations are already on board. But we need you, too. We invite you to be part of the change. You can give, you can advocate and you can volunteer. That’s what it means to LIVE UNITED™.

Why

When we LIVE UNITED™, we can tackle the toughest problems and make Portage County a place where people can realize their dreams.
